Bathroom Vanity Sizing Guide: How to Pick the Right Width

A vanity sets the tone for the whole bathroom and provides most of your storage. Getting the size right is the most important step.

Measure your space first

Measure the available width along the wall, then the depth you can use without blocking the door swing or walkway, and note where the plumbing comes in. Leave room to open drawers and doors comfortably.

Common vanity widths

• 18–24 in.: powder rooms and tight spaces.
• 30–36 in.: the most common single-sink sizes for a full bath.
• 48 in.: a generous single sink with extra storage.
• 60 in. and up: room for a double sink, if you have the width and plumbing.

Single vs double sink

A double vanity is great for shared bathrooms, but it needs roughly 60 in. or more and two sets of plumbing. If space is tight, a wide single sink with more counter space is often the more practical choice.

Height and clearance

Standard vanities are about 32–36 in. tall. Allow at least 24–30 in. of clear space in front so drawers and the door open easily.
